SIM Cards and Magpies

I finally have my global phone! It took 4 hours to figure out but I think we got it!

Alright, so I have my global phone which has 2 SIM cards. SIM 1 is a Premium Plus plan which costs 29¢ per minute to call the UK, from the UK, and 69¢ to call the US from the UK. SIM 2 is the Global Premium plan which costs nothing to receive calls from the UK or the US on the global number, but costs the caller to call me. Both SIM cards have US numbers as well as global numbers but those US numbers are a higher cost for me, though, potentially free for US callers. In theory I will schedule Skype calls via email with everyone in the US so hopefully I won't need to use that at all. Now, the trick is to get everyone in the UK to call me on one number and accept calls from me on another without mixing them up. Whoo! At least we've got it sorted out.

Now for a video of a magpie baby being protected by its parents:

YouTube Video

Poor little bird! It fell from the nest and, following the instructions of a magpie reintroduction specialist, I've been keeping the baby safe and warm in my apartment at night and then bringing it outside for its parents to care for during the day. Apparently it is a myth that birds will abandon their young if they smell like humans. What magpies do is nest at night and, if the baby is safe and in the same location the next morning, continue to care for it! After a while of this, with any luck, the baby will become strong enough to fly on its own and rejoin its parents as per their normal development. Pretty cool!

Ciao for now!
